New non plusnet router not connecting

Recently bought a new router to upgrade due to the fact out internet is rubbish, range in our house is very poor....rural internet, old cottage etc, we get a max 3mbps on the speed checker, averaging 2.2mbps on a good day.

Sadly this new router doesn't seem to connect?? Any ideas on the settings required?

What is the make/model of the new router? What have you tried so far to connect it? How far have you been able to get through the set-up?

It's a D-Link AC2600 MU-MIMO WiFi Router the only way it is working is through the existing plusnet router (Sagemcom 2740n). it doesn't pick up the settings if it's not connected to the existing router

You have an excellent router and access point.

However, it is not a modem-router - so it cannot be fed directly by a phone connection (ADSL or fibre).

It needs to be fed via an external modem or modem-router.

You should set the D-Link to use the DHCP settings provided by the 2740n.

You can put the D-Link in the most convenient place and connect it to the 2740n by a piece of ethernet cable.

Thank you for your response. I'm sending it back because I don't want the hastle of setting it up like this.

Is there a good modem router you could suggest please:
Old cottage, very rural location, mobile broadband not an option, just want a more stable connection throughout the whole house and be able to watch the odd movie and series, some gaming plus some video uploads for an online fitness business?

Several knowledgable users recommend the BT smart hub 6 as an improvement on the PN supplied routers.

The smart hub 6 can be bought on ebay at reasonable prices.

Make sure you buy a unit suitable for ADSL or FTTC and not FTTP.

An old cottage will tend to have solid walls - which isn't great for wifi. If you can do it, I'd suggest ethernet cabling.

You are probably borderline for watching streamed video such as iPlayer or Netflix etc on TV - but it is definitely worth trying.

Your upload speed is probably slow, but uploading large video files whilst a bit time consuming can just run as a background job and shouldn't be a problem.

We can watch Netflix etc, but somedays we get buffering and a pixelated screen. Will look at the bt hub 6 and see if that's any help. Just with 3mbps here its never going to change the world but having something a little more stable would help.
