Name server problems, and router firmware out of date

Over the past week or so our designated DNS servers have been quite unreliable

Primary DNS Server Secondary DNS Server

212.159.11.150
212.159.13.150

I also noticed that my firmware is quite out of date too and read on the forums that my issue might be resolved by having it updated.

3. Firmware version:Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.263 Last updated 22/03/19
4. Board version:

Plusnet Hub One

I have read on these forums that i should message @bobpullen  to get this update pushed.

I apologies if this is not correct, but if someone can direct me i would be grateful.

"My wife is constantly nagging me that the internet is down again, i try to explain it is not the internet it is the name resolvers"

PLEASE HELP...

as an interim step you can set the DNS per device in the settings, that would keep your wife online.

Re: Name server problems, and router firmware out of date

Thanks for your post @MarcSaunders and welcome to our Community Forums.

I'm sorry to see you're having connection issues. I suspect this is the way the router's handing out the DNS servers to your devices via DHCP, the router may have developed a fault.

Can you try a factory reset of the router by pushing something sharp into the pin hole at the back for 20 seconds?

If you're still having issues afterwards, let us know and we'll arrange for a new router to be sent to you.

The router firmware itself is actually still out latest widely deployed version, but we're in the process of deploying a new firmware to everybody's Hub Ones, which I believe we've begun and should reach them all within a few months as the deployment basically takes time due to how many routers we'll have to update.

However if @bobpullen is around, he may be able to push the new firmware to your router a lot sooner.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Name server problems, and router firmware out of date

Fix

@MarcSaunders - is the router currently in the failure state? If so, I'll need you to restart it before I can push an update from here.

Re: Name server problems, and router firmware out of date

It is not in an errored state, i can see that the Name Servers have changed in my routers config.

Primary DNS: 213.120.234.42
Secondary DNS:

213.120.234.38

IF that is all i need to have right now, then that should resolve my issues i believe

I have just restarted the router and the firmware has been updated.

Thanks for your assistance.

Re: Name server problems, and router firmware out of date

@MarcSaunders - the improvement isn't to change the DNS resolvers assigned to the broadband connection. It's to resolve a lower-level issue that can cause the hub's DNS proxying to completely lock up.

Shout if it happens again, however you should be good from here-on-in.

Re: Name server problems, and router firmware out of date

@bobpullen would it be possible to have the firmware pushed to my router please aswell? We have been having the same issues highlighted in this thread and the previous threads.

Re: Name server problems, and router firmware out of date

@robynforum - done. You'll need to power your router off/back on to apply the update.
