Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

Interesting thought, @Dan_the_Van.

Be good to understand the logic: Given the 2704N works fine, why would the master socket be an issue for the Hub One?

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

@jab1: The Boardband sername currently reads as 'setup@plusdsl.net'.  I previously tried changing this to my @plusdsl.net address, using my usual PlusNet password - which made no difference.  Guess I could try again ...

@DortonDoug That 'setup' user name is probably the issue - to connect, you must have your proper username and password entered.

@DortonDoug

Being in support all my life the basic logic is. Nothing should be ruled out until everything is ruled out.

The power led and b led must both be on and not flashing before you can logon.

Dan.

Edit: The lights will be Orange.

It could be that the changed username and password are not being saved properly by the hub. First make sure that the username that you use is exactly the same as you use when you log in to your Plusnet Account followerd by @plusdsl.net (with no spaces) and also your Account password.

Try this:

Remove the DSL lead before changing the username and password. So, remove the DSL lead, make the username and password changes, Save the changes. If necessary select 'Connect' and only plug the DSL lead back in as soon as it  shows 'Connecting'.

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

@Baldrick1, I can see why this may be tied up with the Broadband username and password, given the Hub One continues to show the default values.  On the other hand, it does raise the question as to why the service is not setting up automatically.

I tried updating the Broadband username and password around a week ago.  One the basis it is possible I made a mistake, I will try this again as soon as I get an opportunity to do so.

Which suggests the hub is not in sync with the local exchange kit. Until this happens, the broadband username is an afterthought.

The Hub Zero and Hub One use different xDSL chipsets. It could be that there's something about your line conditions that the Hub One chipset does not like for some reason.

On the other hand, it does raise the question as to why the service is not setting up automatically.

Two possibilities here:-

1) if the router isnt establishing a DSL connection then it cant obtain the configuration from the PN servers

2) The router uses its serial number to get the config from the servers. When routers are dispatched they are 'scanned' to register the serial number against the account. There have been occasions where this doesnt seem to have happend correctly and so the router wont auto configure

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

As an aside, I note that the reported fault from post 1 is a flashing Orange power light. This does not feature here: https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/router-setup-guides/hub-one/.

In post 5. we are told that a flashing orange light is an indication that the hub is not synching with the FTTC cabinet, but in post 37 this problem is signified by a solid orange light. In post 13 @Dan_the_Van's table (source?) states that flashing orange is a indication that the hub is not authenticating with the Plusnet system. From my reading the solid orange light has only crept in from Post 20 when Dan suggested seeing what happened with no DSL lead connected. So this is showing that it is at least talking to the FTTC cabinet, which causes the light to flash, whether it is synchronising??.

I think that I will go and lie down for a bit as my head has started to hurt!

@Baldrick1

The table source is from a Hub One, it comes with help pages, click on Help near to the right corner of the Home page, there is everything you need to know about a Hub One

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

@Dan_the_Van

Thanks for that. Reading it again the meaning is as clear as mud. What does ‘Detecting Plusnet Broadband Network’ mean I wonder? Presumably it’s that the hub is synchronising (or trying to) with the FTTC cabinet and setting up the connection with the Plusnet servers?
But then, not being mentioned in your table, the other table in my link suggests that a solid orange may be resolved by selecting ‘Connect’ in the hub settings.

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

@Baldrick1

I would think flashing Orange would be a check for a active DSL link, then Orange would then be solid with either a flashing b - failure no Internet connection or solid b - Internet connection with username/password mismatch failure or move to Blue successful authentication and Internet connection

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

Hiya @DortonDough,

I'm sorry you have experienced an issue with getting connected and for the hassle this is causing.

I can see that you have now got connected and have data transferring. I am not picking up any potential external faults and I just wanted to check in with you to see how your connection has been since you got connected yesterday?

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

Hi@SammyM

Unfortunately your assumption is incorrect.  The data transfer is via the 2704N router, which I am continuing to use while intermittently exploring ways to get the Hub One running.

Hopefully I will get to try the Hub One again sometime over the next couple of days, when other commitments allow.

Re: Moving from 2704N to Hub One

Ah in that case it defo sounds like the Hub One could be faulty, if manually adding the details in as suggested can you come back to us here with it setup just so we can run a test just to rule out a bigger issue as Bob has suggested?
