Have you tried switching the router off when you suspect the monsters are in the middle of some frantic facebooking (or whatever the current fad is)? Only do this when you are doing something that doesn't need internet of course!

Just gone live with my new router. what is seriously lacking is a guest wifi channel. This could solve the problem by giving the kids the password to the guest channel, then turning it off. Maybe in a future firmware release it will be brought in?

There is obviously a balance with ISP supplied devices between cost and complexity.
When my son was younger I worked out the features I needed from my broadband router and ended up buying a Draytek 28xx series device.
The fibre versions are still expensive even second hand but it is possible to use a 2820 (which can be bought quite cheaply) and an Openreach modem.
