Hub One no updates since 2016

Any possibility of getting an update pushed out for my router? I'm currently on Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.217.1.1

@gitbags
If you aren't having any problems don't push for an update.
Read the forums & the first pinned post to find out why.

Re: Hub One no updates since 2016

I believe this normally means that for one reason or another your router has dropped off the hardware management platform. We can re-add your router details, you'll then need to factory reset the router afterwards, and it should pull down the latest firmware within 48 hours.

Send me a PM with the serial number from the bottom of your router if you want to go ahead. Smiley

How do we know what the latest version (and date) is? What is this update process? I don't remember seeing detail about this on the Plusnet docs.

The first pinned post seems to have ten pages attached - which page are you referring to?

@mechanic123
I'm referring to it all as the reason the customer might prefer to stay on the old firmware.
If the old firmware is working for them why take a new version with a bug that is affecting many customers and for which there is no fix?

Re: Hub One no updates since 2016

Maybe they want to avoid security issues that are cropping up from time to time with WIFI? See  https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/02/27/wifi_chip_bug_eset/ for an example.

Presumably, the devs are updating the firmware as we speak?

Re: Hub One no updates since 2016

I believe that the devs as you call them have been seeking a fix for the last 12 months. I do not use a Plusnet hub but if I had one that was giving no problems I would want it leaving alone for the present.

Re: Hub One no updates since 2016

This Kr00k stuff seems very recent (see e.g.

https://www.welivesecurity.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/ESET_Kr00k.pdf )

so the devs possibly haven't got round to it yet.

And the usual advice from security experts is to update systems to the latest release, not to go on using out of date releases because "they just work".
