High Ping Wifi

Hi,

i recently got plusnet broadband and the speed has been up and down but useable. When i try to play with my ps5 online the ping is ridiculously high over wifi. I am basically sat right next to the router so not sure why this is happening. 

i had sky broadband before and the ping was fine over wifi. 

Hopefully someone can help.

to be honest if your ps5 is next to the router you should use an ethernet cable, it's always better for gaming.

I shouldn’t have 1000 ping when trying to play through wifi though. 

i want to ensure this isn’t a deeper problem and if i needed to play via Wi-Fi there wouldn’t an an issue.

WiFi can be impacted by many things though and you wouldn't notice that for things that don't need low latency, such as streaming / browsing.
Try playing wired and see if you hit the same issue, if you do then there may be a routing / line issue.
If you don't then there's probably trouble shooting steps for the wifi - e.g. if you have a hub one you can try splitting the wifi bands.

Model on bottom of router is 2704N, is that a hub one?

No, that's a hub zero.
so assuming you're on ADSL and not fibre?

Yeah ADSL, wired is fine although ping is a bit worse than when i had Sky Broadband. 

I have a suspicion the poor wireless ping is due to a low quality router?

it's not the greatest router in the world and is pretty old.

Trying with an old BT router to see if it makes a difference.
