(Guide) Finally Setup Netgear DM 200 with Linksys EA8300 Router

Just before we get started, the reason I wanted to do this was stability (I am not saying the free modem/router wasn't stable) I always wanted to have a setup using what I felt to be more stable.

So it was a long process with trial and error but once you figure it all out it's pretty simple, I will explain all the troubles I had, what I did to fix it and hopefully you will have some knowledge if you get stuck.

Here is a guide that you must follow but I will also put in down below.

When you load it up there will be a splash screen, asking to choose what country your from and what ISP you have (This doesn't matter as your not going to be using the modem), Just make sure you select manual setup.

  1. First of all connect the Netgear DM 200 with the power lead, RJ11 and RJ45, then connect the other side of the RJ45 to the PC/Laptop.
  2. Once it's powered on login using routerlogin.net.
  3. It will ask you for a username/password you need to type in admin/password
  4. When you load it up there will be a splash screen, asking to choose what country your from and what ISP you have (This doesn't matter as your not going to be using the modem), Just make sure you select manual setup.
  5. Once you are logged in Click the Advanced tab then Advanced Setup. Look for Device Mode and click it
  6. What you want to do here is put the modem into bridge/modem only mode, then hit apply.

Now your done with the Netgear DM 200, you shouldn't need to change this again.

Take out the RJ45 cable from the PC/Laptop and plug it into your router, you will now need to reroute the cables to how you want it to look like as a finished product, Connecting all your RJ45 cables from each device to the router.

Now we need to setup the internet and that you need to do on the router, for this example I am going to be using a Linksys EA8300 as its the product I bought and works very well.

When I logged into the router I had to go through a series of checks, from the internet settings (which hadn't been done yet) to more configuring of files. I ran into an issue where it was stuck in a loop of not being able to find the router IP address during setup, but I found that turning off the modem and router for a minute cured it.

I was able to log back on using 192.168.1.1, Once I was logged in for me it was trying to navigate the menus looking for the settings and then I found them.

Once you are in on the left you will see Connectivity Tab, Click that and a popup window will appear, now click the internet settings tab.

If you click edit (next to where it says "Type of Internet Connection" you will get a drop down menu, Choose PPPOE, now all you need to do is put in your username/password you get when you sign up with plusnet. for example it would be username@plusdsl.net and Password, Click Apply.

Next click the VLAN tab, Turn it on and where it says Internet Trunk there will be 3 boxes you can change, make sure the ID is set to 101 and Tagged, You don't need to worry about the priority, Click Apply again then ok.

It might tell you it will reboot, once your done it should work fine.

Feel free to mess with the settings within the router but only if you know what you are doing, its always best to ask if you are stuck.
