@dmarks70 Setting up your own router is fairly simple, but if you get stuck, there is always help on here. I can't recommend any kit - I'll leave that to @Dan_the_Van , but a cheaper way may be to find out what is causing the disconnections, hence my request for the event log.

I’ve been with plusnet for years and never had a problem until I had full fibre installed. I am not always at the property and rely on the WiFi for Hive and to top up electricity. Since going to full fibre the hive connection keeps saying I am offline. Does anyone have any advice? I wish I had never’upgraded’ as it just seems worse. Thank you!

Are you seeing breaks in your internet connection or is it just the Hive system is showing off line? This is important to know otherwise the wrong diagnosis will result.

Important to know what was your previous Hub; this link (click on me)  will help identify.

Re: Full fibre WiFi problems

... also my understanding of 'Hive smart home devices' is that there is a Hive hub (typically connected to a broadband router via an ethernet cable, although sometimes by WiFi on some Hive Hub models),  then all of the 'smart home devices' communicate with the Hive Hub wirelessly via ZigBee protocol (i.e NOT WiFi) but happens to share the same 2.4GHz wireless spectrum as broadband WiFi.  Therefore it is important to ensure that the broadband WiFi and ZigBee are using different wireless channels - otherwise they will interfere with each other.

Unfortunately WiFi Analyser apps used on mobile phones won't 'see' the ZigBee channels, so you will have to manually figure out how to set a ZigBee wireless channel that doesn't interfere with the channel used by your Plusnet Hub 2 WiFi.

I dont believe you can manually change the zigbee channel that the Hive hub uses. Its supposed to automatically adjust its zigbee channel on initialisation.

If it hasnt been reinitialised since the Hub 2 replaced the original (Hub 1?) router then it may be that the Hub 2 is using a different channel on the 2.4ghz band and so interfering with the Hive.

You could try changing the channel manually on the Hub 2, try either 1,6 or 11 depending on proximity of other wireless networks

Re: Full fibre WiFi problems

Thinking about it more,  if your Plusnet Hub 2 is set to 'smart' channel selection,  that wouldn't know which channel is being used by ZigBee so there is a chance that the Plusnet hub could automatically choose a WiFi channel that overlaps ZigBee.

Change your Plusnet Hub WiFi channel to a manually selected channel (1, 6, or 11) that doesn't overlap the Zigbee channel.
