Enable external Pings on 2704n Router

I can't seem to ping the router from any external machines. I phoned up the support team and was told that it should automatically be enabled on the machine, got directed to the /expert_user.html page but can't find any option to enable it here.

you have been misinformed - pings are blocked and cannot be enabled unless you change to a custom firmware (not recommended)

Thanks very much for getting back to me. I guess I'll have to just leave it, although it's good to know that there is not an option that I was just missing.
