Dummies guide to port forwarding

I'm trying to set up port forwarding on my Hub 2, when I go into the firewall settings, there are start and end spaces for external and internal ports - how on earth do I find out what to numbers to put in there please? I am a simpleton when it comes to these things, so if someone could please help me id be very grateful!

Thanks in advance!

Surely, if you're trying to forward a port , you must know what port you are trying to forward ?

Re: Dummies guide to port forwarding

It's for an app on my phone if that makes any sense.

I'm getting a new router soon anyway so I assume that I won't have this restricted from the start anyway on the new router???

I doubt very much that needs any port forwarding.

Port forwarding is only necessary to allow an incoming connection from the internet to a device on your network!

I suspect you've been told that a port needs to be 'opened' to allow the app to work. This really means open for an outgoing connection and all ports are open for outgoing connections on a Hub 2 ( as with most routers ).

What's the app ?

Oh OK, thanks for your help and sorry for being so dense!

I use a VPN anyway so I think I'm trying to do something I don't need to do!

Sorry to be a pain!
