My Chromebook, laptop has no Ethernet socket, so I'm using an Ethernet adapter in the Chromebook's bright turquoise USB 3.1 (or the Red USB 3.1 port) to the Plus net One router.😊
I understand that the red and the bright turquoise USB ports have slightly different properties and functions.
1. So, is the best USB socket the red and/or the bright turquoise?🤔
2. Is there any loss of reading in not going direct from Ethernet port on a laptop/pc to the Ethernet port on the On Hub router?
3. If there is any loss, in going the USB route, what percentage would that be?

I know nothing about Chromebooks, I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole!
However, USB 3.1 is theoritcally capable of much faster speed then your router or I would anticipate the Chromebook is capable of managing so that should't be the cause of any bottleneck. Whether your adapter slows things down is another matter. The only way ro really find out if thia arrangement is restricting speed is to try it with a proper Ethernet fitted computer.
Regarding which colour USB socket to use, why not just suck it and see which works best?

@Leapy to add to what @Baldrick1 says does the Hub One even support USB 3? I thought it was only at version 2. USB 3 is, to the best of my knowledge, a blue socket.

I think you may have got this the wrong way around. My understanding is that @Leapy is converting his Chromebook USB 3.1 output to Ethernet and it's the Ethernet output that's being connected to the Hub LAN, not USB.

@Mook @Leapy is using a USB to Ethernet adapter on the Chromebook so the USB support on the Hub is irrelevant, the connection is Ethernet as far as the Hub is concerned.

I see what you mean @MisterW @Baldrick1 but it was the above that I was referring to.

I see what you mean I think what @Leapy is asking is which coloured Chromebook connector should be used to plug in the USB/Ethernet adapter but either way the Hub One USB connetor cannot be used as a Hub Internet connection. This has to be either Wireless or Ethernet..

@Mook @Baldrick1 @MisterW This is the set-up to link into the One Hub Router for a wired speed test. 😊
