It is worth checking out this link:

Before I get told off for advertising, it has even done a reverse DNS and told me my ISP is Virgin Media (or Branson Media as I prefer to call it).

That link will do a check on your external IP and see what ports are open. Then you can examine the ones that should be.

Thanks for your input. Have acquired another printer - not an HP one. HP printer still printing at the moment but HP still doesn't seem able to connect with printer to monitor ink levels. Will continue to use the HP one until it stops printing.
