Can I set up Open DNS on a PlusNet Hub 1 Router?

My question is, can I set up Open DNS on a PlusNet Hub 1 Router?

Hi

New to PlusNet and no complaints about the broadband speed or the reach of the PlusNet router (Hub One) throughout the house. 

However... despite a decentish download speed (usually around 35 Mbps), Internet services are slower to load than expected.

Had a similar issue with previous supplier and resolved it by replacing the DNS settings at the router with OpenDNS setttings. Much improved and a very reliable DNS service.

I'm struggling to see if this can be done with the PlusNet Hub One Router. Can it be done? If not, why not? And if not, what alternatives are there (I don't want to reconfigure each individual device).

@swisstony  Welcome to the forum.

Plusnet lock down their hubs to the extent that you can’t change the DNS servers. This makes customer support easy. The cheapest solution is to go onto an auction site and get a Business  version of the Smarthub 6. you can set the DNS servers on these and they are a better device. Looks like I have two options:

(i) grin and bear it - at least until the contract runs out, or

(ii) get the business Smarthub 6.

It’s surprising how many talk of leaving due to the inadequacy of Plusnet hubs when for less than £30 (much less if you don’t want the extra Business version features) and 10 minutes to enter their Plusnet credentials their problem would be solved.

Just as a matter of interest, have you investigated whether you could use the previous supplier's router with Plusnet.

It may be possible.
