Billion Bipac 8800nl R2 port confusion!

I have just set up  a Billion Bipac 8800nl R2 connected to TP-Link M5 Mesh WiFi system. The 8800 has the latest firmware and is set up in bridging mode. It all works perectly ok and I get good sync speeds.

Now to get it to work the Deco must be connected to the EWAN port on the 8800. With it connected this way I cannot connect to the 8800 to administer it despite it being on the same subnet as the Deco 192.168.1.x (the 8800 is on 192.168.1.254). It does not appear on the network.

If I connect the Deco to a normal ETH port on the 8800 internet connection does not happen!

The only way I can administer the 8800 is to leave the Deco connected to the EWAN port and connect a laptop the one of the normal ports.

Re: Billion Bipac 8800nl R2 port confusion!

@QuantumGuy  Welcome to the forum.

You are using the Billion as a modem only so what is there to administer?

If you set up the Billion as a modem router you can switch off the Billion wireless if you wish and connect the M5 to an Ethernet port. If you do this you need to set the M5 up as an Access port. See. https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/faq/1842/?utm_medium=select-local

Fix

@QuantumGuy  if the 8800 is in bridge mode and the m5 mesh system is making the pppoe connection , then thats correct, you will not be able to access the 8800 from the network.
