BT Smart hub parental controls?

Please can anyone advise if there is a way to have parental controls using a BT smart business hub? I've used a helpful post from the forum to set the hub up and it's all working, but I can't seem to find any posts about parental controls. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks

@SWLBristol

There are none on the hub. You can set up Safeguard on your account https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/how-to-use-plusnet-safeguard/ or put an app on your childs device.

Re: BT Smart hub parental controls?

Thanks for this. I have the Safeguard on already with lots of items blocked (porn, weapons etc) but it doesn't seem to work so well when I test it out. On the plusnet hub it wouldn't show any indecent images at all whereas although I've left the settings exactly the same and simply switch the hub to BT it shows images (although it does block access to the websites).

@SWLBristol

I’m confused. If you can’t access a web site how can you see images hosted on that web site?

Are you sure that the images are not already on your computer/in the browser cache?

Re: BT Smart hub parental controls?

Sorry I might not be explaining myself well. If I go to an incognito chrome tab and type in the word 'porn' I get sites appear when I click on one it says 'this site can't provide a secure connection' but when I click on images lots appear. When I have tried this to test out parental controls on my plusnet hub, it didn't provide websites or images.

Re: BT Smart hub parental controls?

They are:
Primary 213.120.234.42
Secondary 213.120.234.42
(see this page https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/about-dns-server-and-website-settings/)

configure them here http://192.168.1.254/00000113200/gui/#/myNetwork/ip-address

Ahh, that will be it.

The way it works is that Plusnet remotely change the DNS addresses, presumably through TR069. Smarthub updates come through totally separate BT servers not accessible by Plusnet.

I assume that as long as Safeguard is activated in the Plusnet account and the DNS addresses are set correctly then it will work with a Business Smarthub. It won’t work with a residential Smarthub as you can’t change the DNS servers on these.

Re: BT Smart hub parental controls?

Thank you both for your time, unfortanately despite having put in the DNS safeguard numbers in via Advanced (they don't show under status but they do under Advanced, My network, IPv4 configuration and having checked my safeguard is activated and having rebooted laptop and restarted the BT Smart Business hub, the problem remains.  I've even tried the OpenDNS too but that also didn't prevent access to images.  If you have any other ideas please let me know. But It looks like I'll have to revert to my plusnet router after all.  Thank you for your help though.

Re: BT Smart hub parental controls?

@SWLBristol

That’s a pity. presumably the Plusnet servers use the serial number of your hub to identify your personal settings.

Regarding OpenDNS is there anything here that will help. https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360050488452-Open-DNS-Filtering-Not-Working

@RealAleMadrid

But it’s working when the Hub One is connected.
