BT Smart Hub factory reset by itself

Hi

For the information of other users, in case it happens top you:

Yesterday, my broadband dropped a few times and recovered, then last evening it dropped completely. Looking at the hub manager, it appeared that everything was connected on the wifi, but there was no internet and I kept getting messages I've never seen before, directing me to the BT help pages.

This morning, I contacted the Plusnet help team, who were amazing, but while I was waiting for a call back, I had a thought, and went looking for the connection settings on the router, only to find that they had reset to a BT address. I was trying to remember the Free-online setting I needed when the call back came through, and the they talked me through the rest of the way.

I can only assume that the line got a bit flaky yesterday for whatever reason, and triggered a reset on the router.

It seems fine now. Every day is a school day 🙂

@John_Hull

This can happen from time to time. For whatever reasons, if the hub firmware crashes they factory reset. This is the advantage of using a Plusnet hub, if this happens they automatically reload your Plusnet details and restart seamlessly. If this starts happening regularly you should consider moving over to a Plusnet Hub 2 at the next opportunity.

Re: BT Smart Hub factory reset by itself

Thanks Baldrick.

The BT Hub was still dropping the connection, so I've reconnected my old Plusnet Hub 1 (changed the SSID and security key to match the BT Hub) to see if it's the router or the line. So far the Plusnet router is playing nice 🙂

If it stays steady for a few days, then I'll probably be in the market for an upgrade.

I've been thinking about  a Mesh system for a while, so this may be the catalyst 🙂
