Switch ADSL to VDSL when not at home?

I have ordered a change as above.

Specified no new Plusnet modem as we have a Vigor 2762 which handles both protocols.

Snag is the upgrade date (next Friday 25th) was assigned without asking me for confirmation and I can’t stay in after 2pm.

Does it matter if I’m not home when the upgrade is done? I assume the BTOR engineer can make the change in the street cabinet. When the line reconnects, the Vigor should just connect to VDSL. Same port, same logon details.

If that is not acceptable, is it possible to specify an A.M. appointment, or failing that, to change the date to Thursday 24th or Tuesday 29th?

Many thanks

Re: Switch ADSL to VDSL when not at home?

@caduckett  Welcome to the forum.

You do not need to be at home as this will be done remotely. As you use a third party modem/router it will simply disconnect. The reason is that the settings are different, for example ADSL uses PPPoA and VDSL PPPoE encapsulation, so you will have to do some changes. See here for the settings  https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/broadband-connection-settings/

Re: Switch ADSL to VDSL when not at home?

Hi @Baldrick1  and thanks for your response.

That's great news, but I'm slightly confused when you say done remotely.

Doesn't this change need a physical rewiring at the street cabinet?

When I did the same change from ADSL to fibre VDSL about 5 years ago at a different property, it involved the BTOR person doing stuff at the street cabinet and then coming into the house to check all was OK (perhaps to check he had rewired the correct pair).

Hope you're right; just surprised it can all be done remotely these days.

Hi @caduckett, thanks for your post.

The works can all be completed at the exchange & at the cabinet - In my experience they generally wouldn't then attend the property to check it's working.

If access is required we'll notify you at least 48 hours in advance.

Re: Switch ADSL to VDSL when not at home?

Thanks @Baldrick1  and @OskarPapa

I was delaying my reply until after the event so I could report what actually happened.

Unfortunately Friday came and went... but nothing happened. Customer Service now say it's now scheduled for this Wednesday and confirm that no access to our house is required.

Re: Switch ADSL to VDSL when not at home?

Hi @caduckett,

I'm sorry to hear that this was delayed. I've double checked the account this evening and I can confirm that we're currently estimating the Fibre upgrade will occur for the 30th and that it may complete any time up until midnight. If you're not noticing any improvement come the 31st, please let us know as soon as possible and we'll be happy to pick this back up for review.

Re: Switch ADSL to VDSL when not at home?

The switch happened on Wednesday. The Vigor 2762 automatically connected and we're getting fantastic speed.

Thanks Plusnet (and Draytek).
