To check that you have the correct username & password , you can try logging in to the memeber centre here https://www.plus.net/member-centre/login
You then use the same username but with @plusdsl.net appended and the password for the router .

The storm in the uk is bad up north like I said I have no heating the Internet runs the Hive any ideas how to make that run.
Hive will run without internet and should maintain any schedules you alraedy have set. If you need to adjust then you can do it from the Hive thermostat , you just wont be able to control it from the Hive app on a phone.

@Keith187 the BT HUb can easily be reconfiured with your Plusnet login details see here https://community.plus.net/t5/My-Router/Using-the-BT-Smarthub-6-on-a-Plusnet-Account/td-p/1587673
I have read that the newer versions of Smarthub can no longer be used on a Plusnet service. As far as I am aware, this has never been confirmed.
However the other common reason it fails is that the instruction to remove the DSL cable before entering the Plusnet credentials is missed.
It is essential that this cable is removed before entering the Plusnet credentials and only reconnected after the settings have been saved. It cannot be done whilst the hub is 'on line'.

don't really touch the stat had to stand on a chair managed it though lol
Glad we got you some heating!. If you don't mind me saying, I think perhaps you should get someone to put the stat in a more accessible place.

I thought it was said the BT Hub was 10 yrs old so it shouldn't have that problem should it.

The OP is going from a Fibre 150 to Fibre 300 so its going to be an ethernet connection into the WAN port, does that still need to be removed ?

@Baldrick1 The OP claims to be using a 10 year old BT Hub on a 150Mbps Full fibre connection and has moved to a Plusnet, 300Mbps service. Not sure if we have the full story here, such as is the Hub that is being set up with Plusnet credentials is the same one that was used on Full Fibre? As you say changing the username and password can only be done when offline, the op will probably not be aware of this.

Will a ten year old Hub/router be able to handle 300Mbps?

Probably not but, if configured correctly, it will work and give a connection.
... I wonder, is the original 150Mb connection G.fast by any chance which is where confusion is coming in ?
Although I'm not sure a 10yr old router would support G.fast
@Keith187 did your original BT router connect to the BT master socket or did you already have an Full Fibre ONT ?

I would assume that it’s the Ethernet cable that must be disconnected. If it’s connected the default username connects to the BT configuration server, where it recognises the request to connect to a non BT service so refuses to play.

From experiments with the Hub One the priority port on switch on is the DSL port, from a factory reset with a live ethernet link to the WAN port in my case to a PPPoE server, the Hub assumed a WAN connection.
So I would say power the BT Hub with WAN link to the ONT connected once the connection is established with a login failure, force a disconnect by pulling the WAN cable and then enter the plusnet broadband username and password.
Hope this works.
EDIT: once the Hub One uses the WAN port once it will always do so until factory reset
