Moved to an empty property - need to wait to takeover line

Informed that we can't begin our service in our new home - which was empty prior to us moving in - because there is still an active line from the previous owner.
Now we have to wait another 9 days to start our service - and cannot get any other broadband.

Extremely frustrating to be stuck like this despite reassurance that this would be sorted today

Blame the previous owners for not cancelling their service.

@Monkeylouis

The delay is because of the Ofcom anti slamming regulations. Its purpose is to allow people who change their ISP to change their mind or block an unsolicited change of ISP.

I don't suppose they left their router? If they did then I'd enjoy the free broadband.

I would suggest blame the previous owners for HAVING cancelled their service ... late.

Their provider will probably have required 14 days notice, which if given on the day they left, will have placed the line on a delayed cease ... during which time no other ISP can place a line take over order.

@Monkeylouis - is this FTTP or SoGEA?  If the latter, is FTTP available in the location?  If yes, then an order for that should be available immediately, though there is likely to be a similar installation lead time.

If FTTP is installed already, is the ONT single or multi port?
