Re: Congested duct / unadopted road

If the duct is even potentially blocked and/or congested, and the duct is under something like a railway line then would any operator take the risk of using the existing copper as a draw line?

Re: Congested duct / unadopted road

@grumble

As far as I can recall it happened very recently per a post on this forum. The OP raised the possibility that it could happen and was going to suggest it to the engineer if all else failed. They were willing to take the risk.

Unfortunately I can't remember which thread.

And what's a railway line got to do with this?

"And what's a railway line got to do with this?"

I know of two properties with ducting carrying active copper telephony/internet lines under operating railway tracks?.

@grumble  Good for you but I don't think that is relevant in this thread. 🤗

its not uncommon for this to happen around railway tracks but it does depend on how it was laid.

Anyways i hope tf12 gets a quickish resolve for the dig.

idealy ups both the ont and router which would only need between 20 to 35w max

Add to that UPS-ing your VOIP phone if you are going that way.

Or of course 'UPS' the whole house and run on cheap overnight electric !!

@krusty hi, if the dig team was booked up I would understand, but they have been in my street for the past week and still are laying ducting for other properties that have ordered FTTP, to me it would make common sense to do it all at the same time, but this is Openreach.

In my case, Openreach used different dig contractors to by-pass blocked ducts to those who came to dig a trench across my lawn, install a Jolly box in the pavement and rope the duct, ready for a third company to install FF.

Re: Congested duct / unadopted road

With my fibre install (with KCI2 and as they could not find the duct they had to redo it) I was told there are 'soft diggers' who just do runs across lawns and gravel, while 'hard diggers' do anything involving tarmac surfaces.

With the required equipment and operating knowledge 'hard diggers' are a much longer lead time.  My 'soft diggers' were a few weeks.

Re: Congested duct / unadopted road

The last 20m to our house is an unadopted road made of brick paving so not a quick job to dig and make good again...

Re: Congested duct / unadopted road

OK install went well, had to clear some soil and roots from the duct but in and working now. Do you know how long it will take to 'settle down' and get my advertised speed (or somewhere near)?

Re: Congested duct / unadopted road

Have you received an email from Plusnet confirming they know the installation is complete? Until you get that, their systems will not fully update, as they won't have been  advised by OR that everything is done.

@tf12

Good to hear the install went OK.

Remember that when testing speed it needs to be done via a wired connection. A WiFi test may not show the actual speeds you are getting for various reasons.

Yes, got that email just after midnight the day of the change.
