'own network' cease charge, £30?

In your terms you refer to a cessation charge of £30, it states:

"When would I have to pay it?

You'd only need to pay the charge if the broadband service is being taken off your phone line. Typical reasons for this are:

you switch to a provider who uses their own network (like a cable provider)"

Could you define 'own network'?

A network not operated by BT Openreach.

So you will definitely get charged if you are moving to Sky LLU or Vodafone LLU because you would be using their network?

Re: 'own network' cease charge, £30?

Hello @chichman,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the forums. Both Sky and Vodafone use the Openreach network with their own equipment. So if you moved to a provider like this you would only be charged a cessation fee if they set up a new line rather than take ownership of the current one owned by use.

You would be charged if you moved to companies such as Virgin who have their own network.

I hope this helps.

How would Sky LLU take over a new line from Plusnet, surely for them to take it over, the line needs to exist already?

Could you define 'own network' in regard to your terms? Is it just Virgin, or does it include Sky LLU?

Hi there,

The think of it as the service being taken over by Sky on the existing line.

A number of providers like Sky, Talk Talk and Virgin use LLU, the nature of which operates as a separate network to providers such as ourselves that utilise BT Wholesale's infrastructure.

So you consider Sky LLU as a different network from BT wholesale.

I can assume from this that Plusnet will charge a cease fee to move from them to Sky LLU.

Hi there,

Can you please drop me your user name via private message and I'll take a look into the order that was placed via the new provider which should hint at what network they operate on in your area.
