early termination charge

having tried to get a sensible reply on the phone and online chat and being promised a call

from line management. I am hoping someone may be able to provide a valid argument other than 

its legal to the following issue.

After talking to customer services with a month to go on my contract  I decided to move to a different ISP.

My dd was taken for the last month of the contract and  i moved service within that month.

I now have a bill with an early termination charge on it with a refund for the period  i did not use.

No one at plusnet seems to be concerned that having paid to the end of my contract

surely I can leave whenever I want .
