Will I be charged a cancellation fee ?

Hi all.

I'm paying £0.00 for ADSL broadband. I renewed the contract last May for 24 months. It ends next May (2022).

Last July I paid the Line Rental Saver. I know it doesn't exist anymore, but if I didnt pay my monthly line charge from August this year, will I be penalised re. my ADSL broadband for wanting to leave ?

If yes, I can't understand why, since I'm not paying anything for it until the contract expires in May 2022.

Can someone clarify ? Thanks.

P.S. The only reason I'm leaving is because Plusnet don't offer fibre in my area. Sad really because they've been fantastic since the day I signed up with them back in 2013 ☹

@Cagney1994

Presumably it’s FTTP that’s become available as Plusnet can supply FTTC.

I suspect that there will be no cancellation charges until the end of your LRS period but they will be applied from then up to the end of your contract.

An option is to keep the Plusnet service until your contract runs out and take FTTP without a telephone service, which should be available. You need to do the sums to see which is cheaper.

Re: Will I be charged a cancellation fee ?

If FTTP, there have been reports of cancelation charges being waived if you move to BT or EE as PN do not supply FTTP.

Re: Will I be charged a cancellation fee ?

@Baldrick1 Unfortunately PN don't do either FTTP or FTTC in my area; just standard ADSL. I've checked on their website.

And do you know what the monthly cancellation charge is? As I mentioned earlier, I don't quite get that if I'm not paying anything for broadband in the first place.

What result do you get under VDSL (Fibre to the Cabinet) if you enter your telephone number here;

Unless you are going to cable it could be that your cabinet is full and no ISP can supply.

Re: Will I be charged a cancellation fee ?

@Mav and Baldrick

This is the main info I guess :
The premise/line is associated with exchange which is NOT part of current fibre priority programme.

The premise/line is associated with exchange where WLR is not withdrawn.

The premise/line is associated with exchange where SOADSL service is restricted.

FTTP is not available.
@Cagney1994

 The priority programme refers to FTTP which Plusnet does not support. The question is what does it say about FTTC?

Re: Will I be charged a cancellation fee ?

@Baldrick1 - There's no mention of FTTC anywhere on that page.

@Cagney1994

So  what are you going to do after leaving? Cable? Mobile network?

Re: Will I be charged a cancellation fee ?

@Baldrick1 - I'm going to go with Virgin.

Btw, going back to the cancellation charge (if any), do you know how much it's going to be per month ? I guess I'll have about 10 months to pay (from August this year to May the next).

I’m sorry I have no idea,  I do not work for Plusnet. When I renewed my contract I got an email advising me of the monthly cancellation charges, did you not receive one?

Re: Will I be charged a cancellation fee ?

@Baldrick1 - I may either get some sort of notification near July when my line rental saver ends or probably sometime next May when the broadband contract expires.

If no email re. the line rental, then I'll contact PN myself and see what happens.

Re: Will I be charged a cancellation fee ?

Cancellation charges are likely to be your total contracted monthly amount without the VAT for each of the remaining months.

With LRS for some of the period and discounted broadband the maths could be challenging.
