Re: What happens if I don't renew my account

@Brookebag

If you are in an unserved location near existing fibre to other streets theere will be a reason (most likely blocked ducts - perhaps tree issues) why they haven't fibred you yet.

My guess (and it's just that) is that Openreach will complete the job in your location in the next few years, as once the 25 million locations are done there is an ambition to (more slowly) do another 5 million (which are generally more expensive locations).

I believe your "out of contract charges" can be found here:

Plusnet price guides for residential products | Help| Plusnet

Click on the bit in "Plusnet Broadband and Fibre Broadband price guide" that applies to your contract date.

Re: What happens if I don't renew my account

Thanks ppl, I think I have found the info now.

The issue with my street is that it doesn’t have ducting. The thing that is annoying is that Openreach said that is the reason we didn’t get full fibre but that did not stop them digging up paths and laying ducting in the same estate only 100m away.

Re: What happens if I don't renew my account

There was a trend some while back to install "armoured" phone cables without ducts. This was called "Direct In Ground (or D.I.G.)".

Openreach probably spent the budget on doing part of the estate but couldn't complete the job in the available funds (or time).

I'm sure they will complete the job. When is another matter.

At a complete guess, after the end of this year, as the focus currently seems  to be reaching the 25 million locations served by the end of 2026 and to do this they need to do as many "easy" ones as possible.

"Easy" in this context is locations with overhead cable from poles in densely populated areas.

Re: What happens if I don't renew my account

@Ian06  @Brookebag  Just looking at the email I received just over 4 weeks before my end of contract. They said my charges would go up from £30.99 to £57.48 if I stayed after my end of contract, without a new contract. (Not sure how they got £30.99, as it's not matching my most recent bill, but it does give you an indcation of how steeply things can go up).

Another illustration of how much more expensive it is to be out of contract with some suppliers (not just ISPs...)

I guess in part of the problems of 2 year contracts - £4 annual increase, large out of contract rises, 2 year commitment and large Early Termination Charges... to get the best initial prices you sign up for 24months - might work for a lot of people but it comes back to bite quite a few.

I can't help thinking that OFCOM had the wool pulled over their eyes by the ISP/Mobile operators when they came up with the latest set of rules... two year contracts with fixed £ increases are dreadful for the consumer - not any real sort of protection.

Re: What happens if I don't renew my account

I am 10 months into my current 18 month contract - which is fixed, i.e. no mid-term increases - and when I negotiated it, I got the 'advised' price reduced by £12.00 pcm. I am currently paying just £1.00 pcm more than the previous 18 months.

Re: What happens if I don't renew my account

If the contract includes landline, i gather the majority of increase for out of contract price is down to landline cost charged to suppliers like plusnet and BT doubling over a series of stepped increases by Jan27. I think the first step has already happened and another is due

As it would appear the cost cant be passed on within contract, it doesnt surprise me that they are trying to move people off to EE which being digital voice i guess has a much smaller operating cost to BT group.
