I recently upgraded my package, as the old broadband my way with 5GB was getting a bit close to the limit on a couple of occasions. someone on the forums kindly pointed me in the direction of my new package, which works out cheaper and I get 10gb per month, double what I have ever used,in all my years with plusnet.
So I was really surprised to get the email telling me I was approaching my usage limit for the month!! I had a check of my usage figures for the month and one in particular was high (Thurs 21st june) when checking it with the shift patterns we work for the month, I was even more surprised to see there was only someobody home for a couple of hours at lunchtime and then just me all night (who checks my email and uses facebook)
It seems a bit odd that everytime I upgrade to more usage, my usage increases dramatically. There is no way i would be using anything near the 10GB I'm allowed.
I'm connected by ethernet to the router but OH's laptop is wireless. I've checked the settings, and it is WPA2 , I've virus scanned and run spybot etc and it's all clear, on both laptop and pc
I don't download music or files, use iplayer or anything similar.
Can anyone take a look and see if there is something amiss?
Thanks
Claire.

Hi Claire,
I wanted to check what your usage breakdown was as that'd give us an idea of where most of the traffic went. Unfortunately we're now just past your billing date and can't see the breakdown for past months usage I'm afraid.
I'll happily check on what it's showing in a few days, at present your single day's usage is almost entirely web traffic with a little of 'other' (basically anything that there isn't a specific protocol for but this is only a few KB so nothing to worry about) and it totals just over 30MB, of which 9 is free usage.
I hope that helps for now, as the month goes on we'll have more detailed information there and should be able to advise further.

Thanks.
My usage was almost entirely made up of web usage, something like 98% anyway. Which is what I would expect, it was just the amounts and on the one particular day.

Hi Claire,

I hope that helps,

Errmmmm That means nothing to me!! I have no idea what that is supposed to be telling me ...
I just know basics like how to configure my router setting etc, and surfing the web, I don't do anything else really...I update my windows and other software when prompted.
Interestingly another user has posted an almost Identical problem on the Broadband board, and thinks google chrome might be his problem...I'd be interested to see if this is true, as we have google chrome installed on both machines as our default browser.
I just don't see how, without anything nasty on my system I can be using that much usage. For the last god knows how many years I have always stayed between 3 and 5GB.
Is there anything else I should be checking.
My router is left on all the time, but the laptop is turned off when not in use and my PC is left on all day but not on the internet, and is turned off every night.
