Are you able to post a screenshot of these charges?
If not, can you say whether the local numbers, excluding the area code, all comprise mainly digits 1,2, and 3?

Thanks for confirmation.
That's clinched it then - a classic case of a "tapping line". Intermittent short circuits 'dialling' random numbers.

Sounds quite feasible.
It would be interesting to compare the dates of any work on the line with instances of phantom calls, and indeed whether they're still occurring.
You can check on calls made since your last bill by selecting "View unbilled calls" here .
NB: It takes around 24 hours for calls to appear on the list.
