Transferring Plusnet landline to new user?

Hi everyone,
My father-in-law's house is due to be sold shortly as he has gone into a care home. His current contract with Plusnet is for landline with fibre broadband. The person who is buying the house would like to continue with this package, but looking on here, it seems this will not be possible. Have I got this right? Will Plusnet suggest switching to EE if a landline is required? Also, should I keep the Plusnet service active until the new owner moves in, or could I have it disconnected before then without causing the new owner any problems or unnecessary expense?
Many thanks in advance.

How long is your father's contract got to run? To cancel early would incur early termination charges.
The new owner cannot get an old fashioned copper landline nor can your father's account be transferred (as far as I'm aware). As such, they can choose whoever they want as their ISP. They could pick PlusNet and go with an idependant VOIP supplier or an ISP who offers both internet and phone like Zen Internet if it's a new service.
Their current supplier (if they have one) may well be able to transfer any current contract to the new property.

@bmc thanks for replying and for your advice. Has just come to the end of a 12 month contract, so there won't be any early termination charges.

As you are at the end of the contract and no longer need the service the cleanest solution depends on when the new owne rwill take charge.
If this is several weeks away, cancel the Plusnet contract. The new owner can then restart the service with an ISP of their choice.
The alternative is for the new owner to sign up with a new ISP now, in doing so this will automatically cancel your contract, you should receive a 'sorry you are leaving us' email. If following this course you should not advise Plusnet that you are cancelling as doing so will confuse things.
The fly in the ointment is going to be whether the new owner wants a digital landline phone service. They need to talk to their new ISP to see if a new number can be allocated as I doubt that they will be able to take over the existing one. If the new owner already has a digital phone they can bring their old number to their new property, these 'digital' numbers are no longer tied to a specific exchange.

@Baldrick1 many thanks for your reply and helpful advice. I'll contact the new owner and see what she wants to do.

Not mentioned yet is PN email. If he uses a PN address he'll lose it when he closes the account.
