Moving into relatives home whilst house purchase completes

Hello,

I am currently on a broadband contract that doesn't end until November. We are moving out of our flat next month and into our relatives whilst our house purchase completes, and then will continue to use plusnet in the new home. What is the best way to deal with this? Should I cancel my contract or can I freeze it?

Re: Moving into relatives home whilst house purchase completes

Hiya @mburns,

Thanks for getting in touch and congrats on the new house, that is awesome Smiley

We are not able to freeze contracts so I believe it would completely depend on how long the buy will take to go through and will any other tenants be living in the address we provide to in the meantime?

Hi, thank you very much Smiley

Unfortunately I don't know when the buy will be completed, but I imagine my landlord will get new tenants in the flat as soon as possible

Yep, I would just set up a new PlusNet account at your new place and worry about the cancellation once you're happy everything is working fine there.

Re: Moving into relatives home whilst house purchase completes

I'm not sure what the current billing system allows, but when I last moved house I was able to keep the contract going (without any actual broadband or phone line) for several months between moving out of one property and into the next (it took longer than expected!). It was cheaper for me to do that than to terminate the contract early, and better for Plusnet as they kept a customer.

I have heard of other customers doing something similar.

Maybe it is no longer possible - but then it would make sense to shop around for the new contract.

Fix

Ah thanks @mburns, our house move team can actually cease the service at the old property and then schedule the house move to up to 90 days before.

I would recommend calling them on 0800 013 2632 to discuss you options, please let me know if you need any further help.

Re: Moving into relatives home whilst house purchase completes

This has been discussed a number of times - the key rules are...

  • There must be an address for the service to be moved to
  • The service restart date can be up to 90 days hence
  • Any changes must be notified at least 14 days prior to the restart date

I can see the potential for creativeness here!
