Left Plusnet but going to get charged

Left last month to BT - got a partial refund for overpaying but got an email to pay for fibre for April and advance notice of direct debit

Why is plusnet doing this even though i left last month

They done this the last time i left and took ages to sort out - do they do this on purpose in the hope people dont notice? Total shambles - please can this get looked into as cancelled direct bebit

Hi @Duggie1982e

It might be worth letting Ofcom know that this is still going on.

Re: Left Plusnet but going to get charged

I had the same issue last month, but, on the plus side, they did send me a nice bar of chocolate as an apology... Grin

Cheaper than another £800,000 fine, I guess...

Re: Left Plusnet but going to get charged

Sorry to hear that.

I've raised this with our billing team to investigate.

We'll refund any overcharges and close your account as soon as we can.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Left Plusnet but going to get charged

@Gandalf i think you should also report to Billing team that in 2017 when this happend they said

We would also like to reassure all customers this was an isolated historic issue and we have implemented a number of new robust measures to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”   Huh

Re: Left Plusnet but going to get charged

I had this when I cancelled one of my PN lines last year. Their customer "service" seemed baffled that I was annoyed at their charging after the service had terminated. Yet they appeared to be unwilling/incapable of considering procedural changes to prevent re-occurrence of the problem. Their customer facing staff appear to be not empowered to fix procedural flaws. Sadly, it will need further Ofcom penalties before the senior PN management wake up.

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Left Plusnet but going to get charged

I think I might, as this is not a coincident that its happened again, clearly they have not fixed the issues

I mean the last time it happened it was only 3 or 4 payments but if i never noticed then it could have went on for ages and they took their time sorting it out

Re: Left Plusnet but going to get charged

I can wait a month to get £20 back (there is no interest to be made on savings anymore) but there was a time in my life when, a few days before payday, I had to decide between buying toothpaste or something to eat; I couldn't afford both.  I dare say there may well be PN customers who are in the same position (e.g. students, pensioners, people on benefits etc.) for whom being charged by PN for a month after leaving will cause real hardship.

That alone should be reason enough to get account closure and final billing right first time.  Here's an idea:  How about a new billing system?  I bet no-one's thought of that.

I know @rongtw, it was a tongue-in-cheek remark.
