Latest monthly bill "charges broken down" totally changed over last month

Just got my latest phone/internet bill and the charges broken down section has totally changed since last month with no reason what all these extra sections are, maybe it's just me
JUNE (look like this)
•Balance brought forward
•Plusnet Protect (Included)
•Unlimited Fibre Extra
•Promotional Discount [minus amount]
•Line Rental
•Line Only
•Voicemail
•Caller Display
•Payment [minus amount]
JULY (now looks like this confusing mess)
•Balance brought forward
•Plusnet Protect (Included)
•Unlimited Fibre Extra [minus amount]
•Unlimited Fibre Extra
•Unlimited Fibre Extra
•Promotional Discount [now a additional cost]
•Discount [minus amount]

@StevieR1 Has your contract come to an end - especially if you were on a discounted rate and your line rental was previously paid on a yearly basis?

So my initial thought is wrong - sorry. Maybe if you put some figures to that list, other Community members could make a suggestion, but I am going to guess that the PN accounting system has screwed up - which adding the figures in might show where. A screenshot of the two invoices - minus any personal details - would help.

Ah yeah, i'll give that a try now, didn't think you would be able to put that much info on the forums even though just dates and prices. A simple better breakdown of what each new + and - cost would have been helpful and promotional discount going from a minus to plus just odd to believe.

Steve - I could be wrong here, but it looks as though the confusing invoice is because of the 'RPI+3.9%' increase in line rental and broadband charges which was advised earlier in the year - a quick check seems to indicate that is what has happened here, but the PN accounting software doesn't allow meaningful explanation.
I would advise you to compare your June and August bills, as that could make things clearer. Unfortunately, as I am no longer with PN, I won't have a July invoice to compare.

That's exactly right John. There's a part month at the old price and part at the new. Any discounts are also changed proportionally so that the effective price reflects the old price + the notified increase.
My billing date is the 2nd of the month so my latest bill is somewhat similar.
Makes a really complicated bill doesnt it...
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

John, it actually quite logical (for a billing system) , it just looks complicated for the customer
It would be interesting to see how other ISP bills cope with a CPI increase mid charging period ?

Agreed, @MisterW , for anyone used to accounts it probably is, but Mr(s) Average hasn't done an accountancy course - mine was about 45 years ago, and I've forgotten most of it since. 😀

Surely you were informed that the CPI + 3.9% increases would take effect on 30/06/2021.
Your latest billing date was 02/07/2021 so you have had pro rata changes applied to the July bill for 2 days of the the 30 charged on your June bill.
If you look at the dates for the various charges and refunds you will see that for the period 30/06/21 to 01/07/2021 (2 days) the adjustments were:
Fibre Extra Old Rate £21.30 x 2/30 = -£1.42 refunded
Fibre Extra New Rate £22.28 x 2/30 = +£1.49 charged
Discount Old Rate £15.60 x 2/30 = +£1.04 refunded
Discount New Rate £16.32 x 2/30 = -£1.09 charged
Line Rental Old Rate £20.29 x 2/30 = -£1.35 refunded
Line Rental New Rate £21.22 x 2/30 = +£1.41 charged
Pro rata extra charge for 2 days £0.08
For the period 02/06/2021 to 01/08/2021 you have been charged the New Rates:
Fibre Extra +£22.28
Discount -£16.32
Line Rental +£21.22
Total charged for 02/06/2021 to 01/08/2021 = £27.18
July Bill total (exluding call charges) £27.26, future bills, within contract, should be £27.18.
Hope that this helps to clear up how the pro rata works.

Ahh I see, definitely not the most clearly explained for as people mentioned the "average joe".
Just having the one deduction then and addition coupled with promotion discount going from money off to me having to pay something threw me a little.
I shall wait to see if next months bill becomes more like the past ones now the increase in prices has affected this bill.
