Is telephone line separate to broadband?

Hi all.

Do I have 2 separate contracts? One for ADSL broadband and the other for the telephone line?

My broadband expires in May 2022 and the telephone line at the end of July this year.

If I cancel the line, will I be penalised for the broadband? I'm not paying anything for that since I took out a 24 month contract last year.

PN no longer do separate broadband / landline accounts.
You must have both from PN and you need a line to have broadband,.

If I don't pay the line rental, what would happen re. the broadband contract?

The reason is, I've gone with Virgin because Plusnet sadly don't do fibre in my area.

Thank you for your response, as per my email, if your contract with ourselves is not due to expire until next year, you may incur Early Termination charges if the account is closed prior to the end of your minimum term period.

@Cagney1994  If you stop paying the line rental the Broadband will be cancelled as it cannot work without the phone line.

That may put your situation in a different light @Cagney1994 

So AIUI you're saying you don't need your PN Internet connection because you've now taken a VM connection?

In that case it could be worth finding out from PN how much the early termination charges would be as they may well be less than continuing with your full payments.

@RobPN - I can't really see why I'd need to pay any cancellation charges if I'm not paying for broadband in the first place.

That's the bit that needs clarification really.

In post 1 you said your broadband contract runs to May 22.

@Cagney1994  so as @RobPN  has already mentioned you need to find from PN the cancellation charges.

 

I presume you paid for LRS last year, so when that runs out you will be charged normal monthly line rental from when the LRS runs out until May next year. The cancellation charged will be based on those expected charges plus whatever broadband costs that may be charged.

 

Did @adam945  not explain this in his email/message?

@Mustrum - Only the bit about LRS was mentioned; that I'd have to pay a monthly charge after (the LRS) ends.

Nothing was really pointed out re. any cancellation fees re. my broadband. But as I said earlier, if I'm not paying anything for ADSL until May 2022, why would I be charged for cancelling it?

PN won't lose out because there's nothing going their way re. ADSL.

And just to add; would I not be given the choice of leaving penalty-free once my LRS expires?

@Cagney1994 You’d be contracted for broadband and phone as part of the same minimum term which will end on the same date together. 

If you’ve paid line rental saver that expires sooner that’d be entirely separate and a decision you’ve made to pay your line rental up front for 12 months.

Once line rental saver expires you’ll be paying the standard monthly rate of line rental.

I’m afraid you won’t have an option to leave penalty free once line rental saver expires as paying that doesn’t affect your contract end date for phone and broadband.

If for example your line rental saver was paid upfront until the end of your contract then I agree you would be able to leave penalty free, forfeiting the upfront payment.
