Re: I had a cancellation charge too from BT....

Did you actually cancel your broadband or did you migrate to another supplier?
The cancellation charge is only applied when broadband on a line is cancelled and no broadband service exists. If this is the case then you did need to pay it.

I simply migrated to Plusnet from ADSL24...
Should I have paid the charge ?
I Also switched my phone line to Plus too ?
Wouldnt mind the cash back to be honest ?
If I didnt need to pay it I will write to them...

Re: I had a cancellation charge too from BT....

The probable reason for the cancellation charge is that you were in a 12 month contract with BT

What are early termination (hold to term) charges?
When you order services from BT there will be normally be a minimum contract period of 12, 18 or 24 months. If you decide to stop receiving a service within this minimum period you'll have to pay an early termination charge.
What will I be charged?
What you're charged depends on how long is left to run on your contract. The tables below show how much you're charged for each month remaining. So for example, if you have six months left on your Unlimited Weekend Plan contract, you'll have to pay a charge of £7.50 multiplied by six, which is £45. You may also have to pay a charge for equipment related to the service you have.

Its probably not an ADSL cancellation charge. If your phone was with BT then its likely you were in a 12month contract and they will charge you for leaving that early.

Just to add
The cancellation charges are being reduced from October 2010 but that is no help for you
