Home move confusion

Hi,

We plan to move house soon but can't get through to the phone help.

We currently have unlimited fibre extra and a land line.

The house we are moving to has EE fibre optic broadband and no land line. They say there was no option to have land line. They say we would have to disconnect and reinstall the old BT land line if we wanted a telephone connection.

Is this true? Has anyone else had this situation?

Thank you.

Re: Home move confusion

Hi

It sounds like they may have FTTP.  If so, there may or may not be a copper line to the property, though that often isn't a mayor problem.

Best bet is to pop the details into here, and post back with the results (blocking out/removing any personal details as to phone number or address).  You may not have the details needed, though there is a link to an address checker at the top.  That isn't always as accurate but it will hopefully be ok for what we need at this point in time.

Re: Home move confusion

Thank you. I used the address checker. The summary at the end said...

The exchange is not in a current fibre priority programme

WLR is currently available at the exchange

SOADSL is restricted at the exchange

Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential UG premises served by 2.5 Inch plastic duct 56.

ONT exists with active service. No spare ports are available. A new ONT may be ordered.

For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (VDSL or G.fast) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.

I'm not sure what the consequences of this are!

@lancewrite

If VDSL is not shown as available then you will need to change provider as Plusnet do not offer a FTTP service. You can still have your 'landline' phone, it's just routed through the 21st century fibre network, rather than the early 20th century cabled option to the exchange.

If you are in a Plusnet contract then if you move to EE or BT and talk to Plusnet nicely they may waive any termination charges.

Re: Home move confusion

Just to clarify, not all providers will allow you to keep your old number/offer digital voice - BT will, but EE won’t at this time.

Sight of the rest of the table would help give more information.

Re: Home move confusion

@Mustrum

I was not aware of this. So EE are so keen on pushing their mobile service that if you want VOIP you need to go with a separate provider?

Seems a bit bonkers, but it is something to be aware of.

Re: Home move confusion

Fix

From that table you have three options:

  • ADSL, but only slow, but you could get it with Plusnet
  • FTTC (VDSL) somewhere between 31Mbps and 44Mbps, which you could get from Plusnet on what they label as Fibre
  • FTTP which it sounds like from your earlier posts that the current owner has, but Plusnet doesn't currently supply

You should be able to order one of the current Plusnet packages. You'd probably need to pay the £49.99 new line fee, and the engineer may need to install a cable from the pole to the property, or pull it through ducting (if underground), but that shouldn't be a major problem, or anything you need to worry about.  It would be for the engineer to take care of on the day.

With your speed estimates, you might not see much benefit from Fibre Extra, as the top end of your estimates are only a bit higher than the Fibre products top end.
