Help,switching to another provider

My contract is up and I haven't got the best picture of what happens next if I want to leave.
Say another provider has much lower prices and I decide to go with them.If the new provider says they don't need a MAC key do I have to get it anyway?
Will the cessation charge apply if I don't , in such a case? Will I have to 'contribute" to the switching process in any way , like giving notice to Plusnet?
I wish the whole MAC key/counter offer thing could take place through our accounts in the member centre.I hate wasting time being on hold/chating to salespeople on the phone.

Re: Help,switching to another provider

If you don't get a MAC there is a good chance you will be stuck with the cancellation charge on the move to full LLU although you may be able to argue the toss but it will be difficult as all Plusnet will see is that the line has been disconnected
You can't move to non LLU without a MAC

Re: Help,switching to another provider

It's LLU.What about letting plusnet know?Do i have to do that?If yes,then where's the ''pain-free" switching everyone promises?

Hi dimcass,
I'd suggest speaking with our customer options team on 0800 432 0200 and they'll be able to deal with this for you.

There's always the 'second-to-last resort' of writing in.

7. How do I get a key?
You can either:
Call our Customer Options Team on: 0800 432 0200 or 0345 140 0200. Lines are open between 9.00am-5.30pm on weekdays (except Bank Holidays).
    Write to us at:
Plusnet Plc, The Balance, 2 Pinfold Street, Sheffield, S1 2GU
We'll then make sure that within 5 working days there's a Question on your account containing:
    Your MAC Key
How long you can use the key to move to a new provider
Which broadband service the key will let you move
Note: we can't reply to cancellation requests made using the Help Assistant. Please contact our Customer Options team on the telephone number above who will be able to deal with your query.

I guess I'll have to go that way.Of course I'd pay for signed for delivery cause letters do seem to get lost in such cases.
