Extra usage allowance unfair charge?

Today is the first day of my payment month. However at 00.12 I received an email telling me that I had exceeded my allowance and another GB had been added.
I had actually gone over by 0.01GB, so it seems a bit extreme to charge me for another GB when the charging period was up anyway.

Re: Extra usage allowance

Welcome to the forum

Re: Extra usage allowance unfair charge?

Hi sueg,
If you pay in advance your charge is 1.00 per gig but 1.25 as extra usage. If you don't want to go over a certain limit then you can set that limit by visiting the manage my usage part of your account.

Re: Extra usage allowance unfair charge?

I am aware of the charges thank you.
I am complaining about the timing, I thought that was obvious from my message.

Re: Extra usage allowance unfair charge?

Very, very unfortunate, small consolation but you should be grateful you are not on one of the new packages where extra usage is in £5/5GB chunks!

Re: Extra usage allowance unfair charge?

But you could always take JoJo advise and stop it adding extra

Re: Extra usage allowance unfair charge?

Hi
Please can some one explain
When Plusnet charges you Extra £5.00 for extra 5GB nearly at the end of month if exceeding your limit.
Is the unused balance of 5gb purchased for the month carried forward into the next month?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Extra usage allowance unfair charge?

There is no carry forward, any extra bandwidth unused at billing date is lost.
If you are approaching your limit close to your billing date you might want to set an appropriate maximum spend in Manage My Usage. If you reach the limit you set your speed will be restricted to 128kbps until reset on billing day.

Re: Extra usage allowance unfair charge?

Hi there
So I hit my 15GB limit (on BBYW 2) and am restricted to 128k till my month's up on Friday (from when I've upgraded to the new 60GB package).
Can I buy extras to get me back on full speed till then? I have set a maximum extra but it's being very slow to kick in if it's working. Or is BBYW2 set up such that it can't go over?
Any advice gratefully received Smiley

I'm on BBYW-2, and this link takes you to the relevant options page https://portal.plus.net/products/upgrade/change_data_transfer.html

Re: Extra usage allowance unfair charge?

Thanks for the answer Smiley
But isn't that a "change of product".. presumably kicking in on the next billing date? (And worse.. overwriting the change I've already made to a new product for next month?)
I changed this one to say I was willing to spend an extra £3.. but nothing happened.

Re: Extra usage allowance unfair charge?

According to http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/products/archive/bbyw/info.shtml#9, you need to "tick the 'Fixed cost or pay as you go' box" from the link I posted previously.
