Direct debit with old supplier - when do I cancel?

I am a new customer.
We have just decided to move over to your fibre broadband service and I have now paid over £ 100 for a years contract in order to benefit from the cheaper upfront cost.
I have also entered my details to set up a direct debit to plummet.
I know this is a basic question, But at what stage do I cancel my payment to my previous supplier?
Today? Is it automatically changed over or do I end up paying for both until I stop payments to my previous provider ( which of course I don't want to do)
It's not clear at all to me, there's no instruction when you sign up what to do next...

You'd need to contact your old provider for that information, we don't know the contract you were in with them or the cancellation period.
