Confused by price increases - can someone explain?

Hi

I'm on a broadband contract for £18.99 a month and the contract started on 01 Feb 2022.  However, I was charged for £19.86 for February 2022 instead of £18.99.

Here are the bills so far:

- Feb: £19.86

- Mar: £21.22

- Apr: £17.89 (correction for overpayment)

- May: £20.92

- Jun: £20.92

I know that there was a CPI + 3.9 price increase from 1 March 2022. The £20.92 charges for May and June mean approximately a 10% increase to the original price: £18.99 + £1.93 (10%) = £20.92. Is this correct?

It's very confusing how this has been calculated.

Could someone explain the billing above and also confirm if the billing is correct? Thank you

@WalnutTree

The increase was 9.3% so I reckon it should be £20.76. I have no idea how Plusnet’s billing system works it’s own version of magic.

Re: Confused by price increases - can someone explain?

Thank you @Baldrick1 for letting me know about the 9.3% increase. As you mentioned 9.3% comes to £20.76, but I also don't know how billing does its calculations. The bills do not provide clear explanations.

I hope Plusnet update their CPI Plus 3.9% Guide to include the 9.3% figure.

Think I'm losing the plot here ... if the pre-increase charge was £19.86, then adding 9.3% (£1.85) makes the new price £21.71.

The first bill following 31st March will be higher than this as it will have an adjustment for the days billed in March from 31st March to the April billing date.  The bill for May should then be £21.71.
