Closing an account

Since I'm not going to be living in the house I'm currently using Plusnet services from July I wonder if it is possible to terminate the contract and send you the router back without incurring any penalty charges?

Regards

Re: Closing an account

Are you moving to another house and will you be using broadband there as a house move is cheaper.

Re: Closing an account

Well that's the thing right that the next couple of months are going to be hectic since I will either be changing cities or just houses and I don't want to be bound by a contract or anything.

Re: Closing an account

You can't get a refund on the router - if you leave within 12 months of joining you have to pay for it.
Plusnet have to pay BT to terminate broadband on the line - they pass that charge on to you.

Re: Closing an account

So I have a 4 port router which costs 40 quid and the cessation fee is 30 pound this means If i'm to cease my contract before it ends I have to pay 70 quid - is that right? But since I've got only 2 months left it seems it is going to be more convenient if I just keep paying 2 months for a service I won't physically be able to use - is that right? Is there a chance where I pay the termination fee and return the router and I don't have to pay the extra 40 quid for something I'm not going to use and I don't want to  buy ?

Re: Closing an account

To avoid paying for the router, yes pay for the last two months. You'll still have to pay the cessation fee.

Re: Closing an account

Thanks, so what do I have to do to start the procedure for termination?

Re: Closing an account

Is there a chance that someone else will want broadband activated on the line if you decide to pay for the extra two months to avoid the £40 for the router?

Re: Closing an account

Well since it is a rented house I have no idea who is going to be moving after me.

Re: Closing an account

You'll need to ring the Customer Options Team anyway I think (number in my signature but note they now close at 5:30pm). It might need one of the Digital Care Team who frequent these forums to sort out the other aspects of terminating the line but delaying terminating the contract.

Re: Closing an account

Hi there,
I'm afraid unfortunately this isn't something we'd be able to do, entirely because ofcom rules state that we aren't allowed to charge for a service that isn't being provided (not to be confused with a provided service that isn't currently available due to a line fault or other outage).
Really sorry about that.

Re: Closing an account

But if I want I can still terminate the contract, pay the 30 pound cessation fee, send you the router back and save the cost of 40 pounds am I right?

Re: Closing an account

So I'm forced to pay 70 pounds?  What a nonsense o_O I don't want your router, I won't be able to use your services ergo why should I pay for them? Angry
