Changing plan & nearing limit

I have just realised that the unlimited usage plan costs only slightly more than the 60Gb plan that I am on, as I have started using more of my allowance & am fast approaching my limit  with more than half of my billing window left I decided to upgrade.
I asked if there is anything I can do to avoid incurring a potential £60 extra charge for the remainder of this slot, only to be told to put a limit on it.
I was not asking for something for nothing, just a bit better deal than the £5 for 5Gb.
