Cancellation Enquiry

Hello,
This morning at 8am I called to cancel my service. I found the person I spoke to quite abrupt. I have not received any email confirmation that he has indeed cancelled my service as requested. How or when will I know if this is sorted? I plan to go to Virgin media so thr auto cancel method will not work..
