No, he didn't. Here in Northern Ireland, BT give free calls to Southern Ireland (or at least included in the package) and he uses that quite a bit

So to recap, even if you currently have BB you do have to pay a £25 activation charge (What is it you are activating?) unless you take out Home PHone - apart from if you do it all on the phone when the activation charge mysteriously appears to be waived!
Have I got that right?

Hi macowens,
We only offer free activation for those who subscribe to our home phone service and broadband on sign up. If you friend got free activation without home phone then I can only imagine that the agent may have used a recent promotion we had where we had a free activation.

Sorry about going silent there, I got distracted from the forums!  As Joanne said, it is likely it was done by the sales agent as an offer closer because of a promotion.
