24 month contract costs more than an 18 month one

Renewal is coming up. The prices look a bit odd

12 month = £28.50

18 month = £27.99

24 month = £28.49

Re: 24 month contract costs more than an 18 month one

If it were me I would be tempted to make sure that any cookies have been cleared from your browser if you have looked at any prices on Plusnet's web sites recently....  I can't be sure but have the definite feeling that the prices offered to me as a new customer were dependant on what I had previously looked at (or investigated) on their website previously....  I was left feeling I had been bounced into a more expensive contract than I intended..

But I agree it does look odd and probably worth a try clearing cookies or at least looking from a different device/browser... or just jump for the 18 month price before it disappears!

Logic would say the longer you sign up for the lower the initial price should be (especially with the annual prices increases!)

Re: 24 month contract costs more than an 18 month one

My contract expires in November and just had a renewal off exactly the same pricing as yours. We have our phone with them so will need to factor this in and move that to another provider.

Don't forget to factor in the price rises each March, so 18 and 24 month ones will both incur rises of £3 twice (March'25 and March '26)

@BlueEagle365

You can re-contract with a phone service by phoning PN - at this time. Given PSTN is being withdrawn by the end of 2025 then how long this lasts is unknown.

To move your phone requires a transition to VOIP as no provider will / can give you a copper landline.

Re: 24 month contract costs more than an 18 month one

Interesting that it's possible to recontract with phone for the time being. I guess not mentioned anywhere as they [all providers] need to transition to digital.

Gigaclear have done our village and some have gone with them, either goes really well or numerous install delays. People seem happy with them when it's running. I'm not in need of massive speeds, only 2 of us at home and not many devices, so not quite ready to jump ship yet so would prefer to stay with PN for now.

Thanks

Phil

My re contract options take me onto the phone plans.

Data only is shown as a separate option

So all doneScreenshot_2024-08-17_11-42-11.png

I can then migrate my phone to a VOIP provider- just need to find one that does good rates for calls to the USA, and will leave the line with PN and then wait for OR to get their act together and get the fibre in  (we've had some new poles put up and some new ducts put in but it's now gone very quiet and I know the duct up past my house to the pole that feeds my house is blocked in at least 3 places)

@BlueEagle365

Given that PN are withdrawing from providing phone services the more who jump ship before they pull the plug means less work for them when the time comes.

Do you use PN e-mail? If you do, you lose that if you leave.

With regards to the phone you need to think - do I actually need it nowadays. Is mobile coverage good enough to act as a replacement? Note that VOIP doesn't work during power cuts.

Re: 24 month contract costs more than an 18 month one

Agreed regarding actual need. We live in a slight dip so mobiles work but with only one bar signal (all networks) landline is generally more reliable by I moved to Smarty form PN Mobile and get Wifi calling included but my wife doesn't (GiffGaff/O2).

Only just started looking as I have a few months to go yet.

Cheers

@SteveA

Unlimited Fibre extra includes line rental which is your phone line/number.

If you port your number to a VOIP service this will terminate your line.
When you are ready, you will need to contact PN to change to Fiber (SOGEA).

@mystreet1  - aware of that. I'm going to be shopping around for a suitable provider.

@SteveA

Only mentioned it as the image you posted states that your order is all sorted and then displays what you have ordered

Re: 24 month contract costs more than an 18 month one

OK, just started looking this in earnest and finding that yes, I can recontact on my existing package (Fibre + and unlimited calls) BUT....

It's not the £27.99 to recontract on my current package shown on my offer page. Currently I pay £33.18 per month all in. It's difficult to really compare because my bill shows discounts applied to some items under the existing contract.

The new recontract "offer" is for Line Rental @ £27.99 PLUS Unlimited calls @ £12.69 making the monthly total an increase to £40.68

So essentially if I want to stay with PlusNet on my current package including phone I will be paying £7 per month extra with two guaranteed price rises of £3 during the 18month contract term. Really not a good deal for me,

I have had very little trouble with PlusNet (one about a year ago that was resolve with a couple of visits and swap-out of BT gear in the roadside cabinet and occasional billing issues) service has been solid for time I have been with them - at least 14 years! There are better deals for me elsewhere now. I will call them and speak to a person to see what can be done as I would prefer stay.

@BlueEagle365

You should phone PlusNet Customer Options Team on 0800 013 2632 to see what options / offers are available to you. Better than just using the web page.

What ever contract length you are offered for the phone line you will lose it by the end of 2025 at the latest.
