101 NOT included in free calls?

I assumed (wrongly) that 101 would be included as an inclusive call, otherwise I would have dialled the local number for the cop shop.
I can't find any details on what rate 101 is charged at.

Re: 101 NOT included in free calls?

A bit silly that is isn't included on any of the packages though. Or is it included in the anytime?
Last time I will call it as a call to the local number is free (after 7pm).

Have you thought about [tt]http://www.saynoto0870.com[/tt] ?
I always look up non 01/02/03 numbers there.

Re: 101 NOT included in free calls?

So do I, but I had to call the police on a matter, and thought I would use the 101 rather than the local number, assuming wrongly that it would be included in the free calls. From now on I am back to using the local number.

It used to be and possibly still is, free from the now endangered lesser spotted payphone.

Why does it cost 15p to call 101?
The 15p cost of the call goes to the telephony providers to cover the cost of carrying the calls. The police and government receive no money from calls to 101.
Everyone calling the police for non-emergency matters now knows exactly how much a call will cost them, and can be assured of equal access whether they are on a pay-as-you-go mobile or a home landline.

I seem to vaguely recall that operators aren't allowed to include it in inclusive minutes/ bundles etc.

I can't think of any number starting with 1 that is ever inclusive, with any provider on any package. They are either free or they cost.

Re: 101 NOT included in free calls?

Yeah, ridiculous that number isn't free. (Not blaming PlusNet, I know it is chargable everywhere else).
I used it once from my mobile about a year ago to report a rigged cash machine I nearly got stitched up at. Only realised when waiting for the cash to come out, a cover had been stuck on. I pulled it off, but in the process of unjamming my cash, one of the £20's was torn into three bits. Luckily after few strips of sellotape later, I managed to stick the bits back and change it at the bank.
Hardly going to discourage people from calling 999 for non-emergencies though. Who says crime doesn't pay? Roll eyes

Re: 101 NOT included in free calls?

It is odd that 101 costs 15p but 111 is free, given that they perform a similar function in relationship to different 999 services. When will the non-emergency fire number be introduced? Smiley
