texting using short code numbers ?

HI

new customer here only just had the SIM.

Am I right in thinking that the PlusNet network which piggybacks off EE doesn't support Short code texting numbers like for entering competitions etc.....?Huh

I have tried a couple of days now to participate in a loca radio competition where I need to text in to  82122      but they never go through.   How can I still participate then?    by using the full number?   does that actually get to them in the same way (prob not as they donrt make money from my premium short code charge)

can you confirm please  - its just that I'm going crazy not being able to get a straight answer from PlusNet themselves.

thanks

I'm sorry you we're unable to find the information regarding short code numbers. The reason this isn't listed on our website is because as you know, we don't support these services. You can find all the number's we do support and charges over at https://www.plus.net/help/legal/mobile-price-guide/. However, I'll be sure to feed this suggestion back to the relevant team.

Re: texting using short code numbers ?

Hi MonFeb0609,

Short numbers are something we don't support at the moment, I'm afraid, although it may be something we look to implement in the future. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause!
If you need any further advice or assistance, feel free to give us a call on 500 from your Plusnet mobile, contact us on live chat via our website or indeed back here and we'll be happy to help Smiley -Rob

Re: texting using short code numbers ?

The lack of support for Short Code numbers is really annoying! Short Codes are used by many organisations including Banks, Utility companies, Charities and Social Media sites and often there is no alternative. Come on Plusnet how difficult is it provide this now essential service?

Re: texting using short code numbers ?

It's about time Plusnet rectified this issue and started offering short code texting as part of it's service.

I've just stumbled across this problem too, trying to respond to a company survey.

Not allowing shortcodes, is like having Sat Nav on your phone, but you can't navigate with it, only search for an address.

You should make this BIG print for new customers, as it's bizzare!

Or looking at it from the opposite perspective it could be seen as a good thing:

Re: texting using short code numbers ?

Plusnet should make it clear to people signing up that they don't support this essential service.

Re: texting using short code numbers ?

It is a bit of a nuisance that texts to short codes are not supported.  I sometimes receive advertising texts from companies and charities, and the only way to opt out of them is by sending a STOP text to a short code, for example 60777.  This cannot be done on PlusNet Mobile at present.

Short codes are not supported! This is such an annoying inconvenience that I shall definitely NOT be renewing my contract with Plusnet!
Its quite arrogant and insulting of Plusnet to take the view that their customers are generally so moronic that they cant be trusted to decide for themselves whether or not to use shortcodes. Such a blanket ban of all short codes with no facility or choice to opt in or out is ridiculous and causes lots of issues for many of us. Not what we should expect from a reputable mobile phone provider!

Denying my reasonable choice is definitely NOT a good thing! What else might Plusnet decide I'm not grown up enough to decide for myself

Re: texting using short code numbers ?

I'm leaving Plusnet Mobile as a result of this.

Similar package/price direct from EE, without the restrictions of a 'no-frills' MVNO.

Not a chance in hell of getting the same deal from EE for the same price, they've become the dearest service out there.

Re: texting using short code numbers ?

I'm another one who Plusnet are losing from their customer base. It seemed like a good deal in the advertising blurb. But I've only had the service one month, already the coverage is next to useless, an adult content lock is in place (this affects sites that are not porn) and now I find I can't use shortcodes!

I've asked twice to get the content lock removed with no avail, you can't control the settings on your account without having to wait for ages to speak to a customer service agent.

Come on Plusnet, this is the 21st century get your act together. I've been with you for years, but now I'm struggling to find a reason to renew my broadband contact when it's time to renew.
