Unusual "plusnet" sign-in notification on phone

This morning my Android phone popped up an unusual new notification asking me to sign in to a "plusnet" network. It was connected to my own WiFi at the time. The icon was different to the usual WiFi icon, it looked more like a mobile signal strength icon. When I tapped it, I got an error page about "too many redirects to http://www.ukisppageverificationblocking.co.uk/". Anyone else seen that? My broadband and WiFi seem to be working fine otherwise.
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Unusual "plusnet" sign-in notification on phone

@davebiffuk, does that phone also have a Plusnet Mobile SIM in it? From what @Pjj00 says it sounds more on the mobile side of things than the broadband.

I've just switched mine to use only mobile data and it is working correctly with that, so it doesn't seem to be affecting everyone.

I don't usually reply to Fibre/mobile threads, but the link the OP put up looks horribly suspicious to me - I ain't clicking it to check, but I would be very cautious.

I clicked on the link

This domain has been registered by British Telecommunications plc.

I ran a whois on the domain first and saw it was registered to BT before clicking on it

OK, @Menace65  & @pjmarsh - it is a legit site, but what is it for?

Re: Unusual "plusnet" sign-in notification on phone

Well it says in the tab it says 'BT DNS management', in the URL it says 'ISP Age Verification blocking'

might have something to do with this

Suspect you're right Embarrassed

@davebiffuk just to clarify, you have a Plusnet SIM in the phone yes?

@Pjj00 is this happening on your mobile data connection, or are you also connected to Wi-Fi? Do you have Plusnet broadband too?

Re: Unusual "plusnet" sign-in notification on phone

Thanks. Sorry, just noticed you'd already stated this in an earlier reply. Just looking for some clarity on which network is generating the behaviour i.e. Mobile or Broadband.

In a way, hoping @Pjj00 doesn't have Plusnet broadband as that would give us a clear indicator.

Re: Unusual "plusnet" sign-in notification on phone

I had a related issue this morning, I couldn't access anything on 4G. If I used chrome it would say the site cannot be reached, but when I tried Opera I got a message saying:

"This site can’t be reached
The web page at http://www.ukisppageverificationblocking.co.uk/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address."

Re: Unusual "plusnet" sign-in notification on phone

Appreciate the clarification folks. Turns out there was a network-related change early yesterday morning that may have caused some hiccups. Should be OK now, so shout if you notice anything untoward again.
