UK Emergency Alert 23rd April - No Notification

I didn't get any kind of alarm yesterday during the 3pm national alert test, yet my partner did on their phone using giffgaff which goes through O2's network.

I wanted to ask if other Plusnet Mobile users had the same issue? (Yes my phone was turned on and emergency calls were toggled on in Settings.)

We got it on our Plusnet SIM that's in a phone.

Snap. Possibly just me then. Guess in the event of a national disaster I'll be the first to go.

@xswitchback

What version of OS is your phone using?

ISTR that the minimum requirement for the alert to work is Android 11 - which is fairly recent, (released in 2020). I'm not sure what the minimum is for iOS?

I'm using Android version 12 on a Samsung Galaxy S10+. One UI version 4.1 for what it's worth.

@xswitchback

I have exactly the same on my Samsung A41, and I did get the alert.

So, obviously not an OS issue then.

Possibly mast/provider issue?

Re: UK Emergency Alert 23rd April - No Notification

I most certainly didn't because the notification is off in settings.

What emergency is on the list? A bit of rain and wind? Population scare tactics all the time!

Earthquake alert included.

Re: UK Emergency Alert 23rd April - No Notification

I did wonder if it was a original provider (ie range holder of the number)/current provider issue, but from the little I know (or at least think I know) of how it works, I don't think the actual number is involved.  I thought it worth throwing out there in case someone else knows more than I do on that.

@xswitchback

How old is your phone? It only alerted on the 4G and 5G bands.

According to GSM Arena, @xswitchback 's Samsung Galaxy S10+ was first released in 2019, compared with my A41 which was first released in 2020.

Both phones look to be 4G capable - but not 5G?

Samsung Galaxy S10+ which is 2019 I believe. (It's pre-Covid so I appreciate that it's a link to pre-end times.)

Checked the network mode and it's LTE/3G/2G - But LTE is another term for 4G so not that either.

Re: UK Emergency Alert 23rd April - No Notification

On thought, for those who didn't get the alert, where they connected to 4G at the time of the alert?  What happens if at the time of the alert someone with a 4G/5G capable phone is connected at 3G at that moment (or has no signal at all).

Or, and this is a really random thought, you are on Wi-Fi calling, as I was, and usually am when at home - although my phone (iPhone 8 ) is 5G capable, apparently. However, I am with Smarty (Three) and a very large number of the 'no alarm' reports were from 'Three' customers.

Re: UK Emergency Alert 23rd April - No Notification

Very good points, peeps. I did hear a large amount of Three customers were left out of the loop. Plusnet goes through EE however if I'm not mistaken. I wonder if other EE customers had a similar issue.

I was at home and connected to Wi-Fi during the rollout test. I have no idea if my calls were, however. Mystery.
