Travelling to Canada

What is the most cost effective way of using my Plusnet mobile allowance in Canada? I’m travelling this weekend for two weeks and would like to use messaging and data services.

Take the Plusnet SIM out and buy a local SIM, or use Wi-fi only for WhatsApp.

Canada is in Band 2 so it's 40p per text and a whopping £6 per MB. You can't use any of your allowance there.

I would urge anyone travelling to Band 2 to disable the Plusnet SIM before leaving the UK. My wife took her Plusnet SIM to the USA, and switch the phone off before takeoff. When she switched it on, before it got to the stage where she could disable the SIM, it used over 900MB of data (catching up on 6 hours of social media posts...). It would have cost over £5400 were it not for the smart-cap.
