Technical question, not specifically PN-related.
Does anyone know whether the mobile signal strength affects location accuracy (when location settings are set to "high accuracy", i.e using wifi and mobile signal in addition to gps)?

Its commonly the gps signal that is the accurate bit.
Signal tower location often only accurate to 50yards (if that) depending on how many towers and only useful when no GPS signal - perhaps when you are in high tower towns or heavy tree lined areas
I dont use the tower location bit at all. Just the gps signal even on my older phones

Thanks. I've been having problems with trusted places smart lock on my Android device and it occurred to me it might be related to poor signal but it appears it's not. It's most likely a bug that Google is unwilling or unable to fix.

Might be related to that location bit reporting to everyone where you are and the bandwidth and processing power that might entail
Location is a privacy can of worms - take a look how many apps have default access to it.
I would suggest just using gps and switching off access to location to ALL apps except the few you know need it.
