Short code texts being considered - or not?

In a recent thread, @RandallFlagg said in Reply#4

We are looking at incorporating this further down the line, however, we don't have any timescales on this at present.

In another recent thread, @JonoH said in Reply#6

We have no plans to implement blanket support for shortcode messages...

So are we to understand that short codes

Are being introduced - some time in the foreseeable future, or

May possibly be introduced in the forseeable future, or

No chance

Re: Short code texts being considered - or not?

Fix

For clarity, we may introduce them in the future. As of now blanket support for shortcode messages is not planned.

Re: Short code texts being considered - or not?

Hi all

only found out last night about this after trying several times to send text.

Made an escalated complaint today, as when signing up not made aware  of short number text not being able to be sent .

Needs more people to complain as it looks as this is cost cutting and not available for the future

Re: Short code texts being considered - or not?

It is cost-cutting, but that's one of the reasons why Plusnet Mobile tariffs are lower than EE's (the mobile phone operator Plusnet piggybacks on.)

I suppose it's arguable whether the products' reduced features and performance should be made more prominent, but to be fair the fact that short code texts aren't supported is in the T&C's ('the legal bit.')

Hey guys, appreciate your points of view here but I've been honest and open and said that full support for shortcode messages is not currently in the plan.

Re: Short code texts being considered - or not?

Are there GDPR implications if Plusnet are denying its customers the right to use opt-out short codes in messages?

Re: Short code texts being considered - or not?

Can someone from PlusNet please explain why this feature is not available?

For example, why would anyone not want this feature?

Technical limitations that arise from our commercial agreement with EE to resell their service make it difficult for us to offer Short Code messaging services.

Re: Short code texts being considered - or not?

So when will your commercial agreement with EE be reviewed?

Clearly a lot of your mobile customers want the Short Code facility (myself being one of them).

I too was not made aware when I joined Plusnet Mobile that this feature was not offered, I took it for granted that it was a standard service, because I'd always had it with O2, who I was with for many years.

Unfortunately, we're not in a position to disclose details of our commercial agreements.  As soon as we have any information to share we will.do so.

Re: Short code texts being considered - or not?

I've ran into this a few times now. Banking services blocking a payment and feedback survey after a trip to A&E... I was unable to respond in both cases.

Hopefully this is addressed in future, I've never heard of a network not supporting it.

Re: Short code texts being considered - or not?

REALLY disappointed in this... also had no idea we couldn’t use short code on Plusnet, not sure I’d have signed up if I’d have known!!

Just tried texting in to donate £5 to covid with the short number and can’t... so I can’t donate... and I won’t be able to do charity donations to other causes too like children in need etc. Shocking.

PLUSNET this is shocking.

I’m going to email this guy who is CEO: philip.jansen@bt.com
Make sure he’s aware and see if he can get someone in his team to look in to it if not, as this is not good from a charitable perspective.

Re: Short code texts being considered - or not?

whilst I appreciate that this is frustrating for some, there are plenty of other ways to donate to charity without texting and to say that you won't be able to donate is a tad churlish.

Or just move to another network that suits your needs better.
