Old number porting

I have recently moved from EE to Plusnet. I am having problems porting my old number over, I have been informed that is likely because I have previously been with Plusnet with the old number that I am attempting to port. EE inform me that I can't cancel with them (without the port going through) so it means I am now paying for two contracts for the same phone. Not only that but EE are charging me the full contract price (instead of SIM only) even though I am now out of contract.  Are EE being truthful about me being unable to cancel without losing my number? Is anyone else having this problem? I have been informed that the Porting team are doing something, but it now around two weeks into my Plusnet contract with no end in sight.

Re: Old number porting

@StevieJ  Welcome to the forum.

If you cancel without using a PIC your number will be return to a pool and will more than likely be lost to you.

One option if you can’t get it sorted and have an unlocked phone is to do a double shuffle. For example if you get a SIM from a company that does monthly contracts, such as Giffgaff, then you could transfer the number to Giffgaff who use the O2 network then after a week or so move it on to Plusnet.

Thanks, but would I not have the same problem when I try to move it back to Plusnet?

@StevieJ

No because you would not be moving from BT owned EE service to BT owned Plusnet piggy packed EE service but from an O2 piggy backed service to Plusnet on the EE service.

I think that it’s what is effectively an internal transfer between EE and Plusnet that can cause this problem..
